If you’ve ever rented a bulky carpet cleaner, dragged it home, and wondered if it was really clean… you get me. I used to rent a machine once or twice a year, and between the cost, the hassle, and the questionable cleanliness (you never truly know where those machines have been!), I finally decided it was time to get my own.

And honestly? I wish I did it sooner.

I now use a Bissell upright carpet cleaner for all of my deep carpet cleaning — and it has been one of the best home-cleaning decisions I’ve made as a mom and pet owner.

Quick note: The exact model I personally own is an older version that’s no longer sold. The one I’m linking here — the BISSELL TurboClean Pet XL Upright Carpet Cleaner — is the newer, updated version. If I were buying today, this is the model I would choose.

Why I Decided to Buy My Own Carpet Cleaner

With little kids and a pet, life happens on my floors — snacks, playtime, spills, accidents, pet hair… all of it. Renting a carpet cleaner every time just wasn’t realistic anymore.

Here’s what pushed me to finally invest in my own:

✅ Access anytime I need it (no rental runs)

✅ More hygienic — I know it’s clean and maintained

✅ Saves money long-term

✅ Compact enough to store easily

✅ Real peace of mind knowing my floors are truly clean for my kids

As a mom, that last one matters the most to me. Clean floors = peace of mind.

Real Results: Why I Love It

Let’s just say the dirty water tank is oddly satisfying… and slightly terrifying 😂

Even though we don’t wear shoes in the house, so much dirt still comes up — proof carpets hold more than we think.

I use this machine for:

Everyday kid messes

Pet hair & occasional pet stains

Food + juice spills

High-traffic area refreshes

Deep cleaning before babies crawl

Routine all-home refreshes every ~6 months

After cleaning, my carpets look brighter, feel softer, and the whole room smells fresh. Today I deep-cleaned the carpets again and the before-and-after difference was amazing.

Real results from cleaning my living room carpet today — that middle section is freshly cleaned! This is why I love this carpet cleaner.

My Carpet Cleaning Routine (Simple & Effective)

Move small furniture if needed

Vacuum thoroughly (both directions for best lift)

Fill with water + Bissell cleaning solution

Clean in small sections

After each section, make slow passes without spraying to pull up extra water. Carpets dry faster this way

Empty dirty tank + clear debris as needed (Pet owners — hair can reduce suction if not removed)

After finishing, rinse and clean the machine so it stays fresh and works like new

I deep-clean my whole home every 6 months and use it as-needed between.

Where I Store It

It fits in my small cleaning closet, right next to the vacuum.

Compact, easy, mom-friendly.

Final Thoughts

There’s nothing like seeing the dirt come out and knowing your kids are playing on clean floors, not mystery germs 😅

Whether you have pets, kids, or just want a cleaner home, having your own carpet cleaner makes a huge difference — and gives you control over hygiene and cleanliness.

And since I own the older version and love it, I feel confident recommending the newer, upgraded model linked below.
